Peterborough

Peterborough is an industrialized city to the north-west of Cambridge. It has leisure facilities that Cambridge doesn't, including a sailing lake and an ice rink.

Huntingdon

Huntingdon is at the far end of a nightmarish stretch of the A14, on the way to Stilton, where the famous cheese was never made.

Ely
Ely Cathedral
The Fens

The Fens are an area of low-lying land to the north of Cambridge, surrounding the city of Ely and containing several small towns including Soham. Their soil is rich and peaty, and the story of their drainage is an epic one now lasting many centuries. Although they are mostly quite dry now, a small area of wet fenland is preserved at Wicken Fen as a nature reserve.

St. Ives

St. Ives is a small market town to the west of Cambridge.

Bedford

Bedford is the county town of the next county to our west. Like Peterborough, it has a sailing lake.

King's College Chapel
Newmarket

Newmarket is most famous for breeding and racing horses.

Royston

Royston is a pleasant small town in Hertfordshire. It is well known to Cambridge people for the nearby area of chalkland called Therfield Heath (often referred to incorrectly as Royston Heath).

Saffron Walden

Saffron Walden is a picturesque Essex town with the remains of a castle. It is worryingly near Stansted Airport.

Heidelberg

Heidelberg (in Germany) is one of our twinned cities.
