Motors found so far. LEM-130 is definitely the most attractive engineering option,
for which I would find the cash - somehow. It's a pancake design - approximately
the size of a stack of 25 CDs, and has the highest power-to-weight ratio of
any permanent magnet DC motor in the world.
Litton-PS motors could probably get away with in quantities of 24of (two per gear,
12of gears driving 6of legs) for a 50cm diameter SpiderBall.... then you couldn't
fit the controllers in that would be sufficient to drive them!
... but they're too expensive, anyway.
